Businessman Murdered For Refusing To Settle Area Boys

A businessman, Charles Ugwu, has been killed in the Ajegunle area of Lagos, over his refusal to settle some street urchins, popularly known as area boys.
The incident was said to have occurred at Uzor Street, Ajegunle, on September 24 2013. A tyre dealer, Ugwu was said to have been accosted by two area boys, identified as Saturday and Chimezie, while offloading goods from a vehicle to his shop.
The deceased’s wife, Stella, who claimed to have witnessed the incident, told PUNCH Metro that her husband had resisted the thugs’ efforts to extort money from him resulting in the assault on her husband.
She said, “Around 9pm on that day, two young men, known as Saturday and Chimezie, accosted us saying they would not allow us to continue working until we settle them.
“We asked them why we should pay them because the goods had nothing to do with the hoodlums. Saturday was “annoyed; he walked away only to return with stones, which he threw at us. When my husband cautioned him to stop causing trouble, Saturday picked up a “stick and struck Ugwu on the neck.”
Ugwu was said to have fallen to the ground while all efforts to revive him failed.
PUNCH Metro learnt that immediately after Ugwu was killed, the Divisional Police Officer of Ajegunle Police Station, Mr. Abayomi Agbana, was contacted. Agbana was said to have dispatched policemen to the area and the two suspects were arrested.
The bereaved wife lamented the hardship that had been brought on the family due to her husband’s death.
She said, “Who will train my children for me? Ugwu was a good father and husband; he was much too young to die. We loved each other so much. How can my three children be fatherless at these ages? Our first is just 15 years old. The second is 12 years and the last child is nine. These hoodlums have wiped out the joy of my life.”
In his statement at the police station, Saturday claimed that he actually demanded money from the businessman but had nothing to do with his death.
He said while demanding money from Ugwu, Stella told her husband not to part with any money.
Saturday claimed that at that instant, Stella held his singlet. He alleged that Chimezie and the deceased were trying to appeal to Stella to let go of the suspect when the businessman suddenly collapsed.
He insisted that neither him nor his accomplice had fought Ugwu.
Chimezie was also said to have alleged, in his statement, that he was trying to appeal to Stella when her husband suddenly collapsed. He claimed that no form of violence had been used on the deceased.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, Lagos, for further investigation.
The victim’s younger brother, Francis, said the family was ready to bury the corpse but police had yet to release the body.
He said, “The police have insisted that the autopsy report must be done before the body would be released.”
Detectives at the SCID have however blamed the ongoing doctors’ strike for the delay.
A detective, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity on Tuesday, said, “Many bereaved families have been complaining since the doctors strike started. This is because they want to bury their loved ones but cannot take away their corpses because autopsy reports have not been done. The situation is worrisome and embarrassing in some cases.”
The Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Ngozi Braide, said she would call back when contacted for information on the case. She had yet to do so as of 8pm.

                               Naija News
“The whole campus erupted with students spilling out to take over every area of the campus in condemnation of the attack,” one of the students told our correspondent. He added, “We continued our demonstration this morning, closing the school gates against any activity on the campus.” One student described the assault victim as “an athletic fellow,” adding that he was badly stabbed by the culprit. Some eyewitnesses told   that they were not aware of any dispute between the victim and his attacker prior to the assault. “In fact, the guy (victim) was even begging [the culprit], asking what offense he had committed, but the cult guy was just muscling the more as if he had hatred for him before,” said a student who witnessed the violence. Several students disclosed that cult activities had been rampant on the campus of Yaba College of Technology in recent times. Some of the students accused the institution’s management of being too weak to respond to the activities of the increasingly lawless cult groups. In separate interviews, several students said female victims of a series of rape attacks by cult members had filed reports with the college’s authorities, with little or no action. Other students reported robbery of items belonging to innocent students, unwarranted physical assaults, and daylight initiation rites for new members of cults on the campus. “Two weeks ago, [cult members] raped one female student,” a student of the arts department told  Another student interjected: “But two weeks is a long time here. Just yesterday, another was raped and they slapped a young man trying to question them.” At the time of filing this report, the students had gathered on the campus waiting to be addressed by the head of the Students Affairs department. An official of the students union at the college also stated that the rector was on her way to address the students. “They will only plead with us as usual to remain calm,” one student said. He added: “They won’t necessarily take any effective step to stop this evil or bring the perpetrators to book

Chaos In Warri As Oba Accepts Christ… Abolishes Rituals & Ancient Cultures

The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwase II has defiled the order of Kingship; announcing the abolition of some of the ancient Itshekiri cultural practices.
This has led to a serious protest by angry indigenes, in Warri, Delta State who took to the street on Sunday to protest but for the quick intervention of Governor Uduaghan, it would have resulted into total mayhem.
The Olu of Warri, who suddenly turned born again by accepting the teachings of Christ, with a Four Square worship center he built in his Palace, made the announcement on the 4th of September 2013.
In a document titled “The new order of Iwere Kingdom” the Oba stated that, the “Ogiame” title which had been in existence for over 500 years would no longer exist because it is purportedly associated to a river goddess. He now only wants to serve one God.
In the document, The Olu of Warri said, “I also repent from the name and title of “Ogiame” that my ancestors and I have borne, as it connotes our allegiance to Umalokun (goddess of the river) and other deities of the sea, all of which are false gods.
“Today, I renounce our allegiance to Umalokun and other gods of the sea, land and sky. On behalf of the royal bloodline, the throne the people of Iwere land, I publicly enter into a new covenant with God.”
The king also dissociated himself from the old time traditional practices which he described as paganism.
There are indications that the Oba took this laws without consulting with the elders of the land and has been asked to retract his statement or vacate the throne but the Oba has stated that there’s no going back on his decision.
About 5000 women have been reported to embark on a protest in Warri today against the Oba’s new laws.
Who wins this battle, God or gods? The story, however, continues.

TWO NOTORIOUS CULTISTS HELD IN FIGHT WITH POLICE

Respite recently came the way of men of the Nigeria Police in Lagos and residents of Shomolu and its environs when two alleged notorious cult members cum armed robbers were arrested.

The two suspected were identified as Rasaki Oseni a.k.a. Elewure and Steven Uche. Rasaki was alleged to have been declared wanted early this year by the Lagos State Police Command. He was declared wanted for acts relating to the vandalism of over 100 vehicles at the Akoka area of the state during a cult clash. Rasaki, a self-proclaimed leader of a notorious gang, Feeling/Steeling boys (EFCC boys) of Shomolu, was also alleged to have led several groups of notorious hoodlums to terrorise parts of the state.

The long arm of the law, however, caught up with him on Tuesday, 24 September, 2013, when policemen from the Alade Division, led by its Divisional Police Officer, effected his arrest. On that fateful day, Rasaki was in company with some of his acolytes like Yesiru a.k.a. Talon Skibo, Rasaki Osanle, Kunle Eyin Bouncing and some others at a location around Morocco Area of the locality.

While there, the suspected cult members were smoking marijuana without let. Rasaki, in particular, was said to have walking up and down the street with the marijuana in his hand, and harassing passersby. The street where the cult members were converged was a stone throw from the army barracks in the area.

While the wanted cultist and his cohorts were busy smoking marijuana and harassing residents, a concerned resident, who probably recognised him as having been declared wanted by law enforcement agents, put a call to the security operatives in the area. The police boss in the area hurriedly led some of his men to the spot where Rasaki and his partners-in-crime were hibernating. They were reportedly caught in the act as Rasaki and his cohorts were found harassing passersby and trying to extort phones and other valuables from them.

He and one Steven, said to be a member of the Eiye Confraternity were reportedly arrested right on the spot. The two had since been transferred to the Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force at Ogudu in the metropolis. A source at Alade Police Station told journalists that the head of the division had put in place a mechanism to have other fleeing cultists arrested and brought to justice.

According to the source, “The arrest of Elewure was a great relief to us law enforcement agents and most especially residents of this area and the state at large. He had long been declared wanted by the state command for various offences ranging from hooliganism to cult related issues. A man called the station’s phone lines to intimate us of his presence in the area after a long time absence.

Thus, the DPO marched some of us to the area and effected his arrest together with one of his men.” During initial interrogation, Rasaki reportedly admitted to being the leader of the notorious EFCC gang in the metropolis, saying that his gang only go after the cyber criminals and never participated in any killing as being alleged against the gang.

Rasaki was also reported to have thrown more light on the cause of the cult clashes in Shomolu area in the time past. He linked it with a leaked pipe at the Fola Agoro canal where he claimed different gangs always scoop fuel from the pipe. A resident of Fola Agoro, who would simply want to be known as Lateef told Saturday Mirror that the arrest of the two hoodlums would signal the end to persistent cult clashes and molest of innocent residents in the area.

Lateef, who claimed he had been brutalised by Rasaki’s boys before now added, “I remember that this same Elewure once stormed our street sometime last year and subjected residents to untold hardship and many people lost their prized items to the gang. I am sure his arrest would be well received by residents of the area.” When contacted, DPO Alade Police Station could not be reached on phone, but a sergeant at the station directed Saturday Mirror to reach the Area Command for further information on the arrest
